Growing Griesbach

Village at Griesbach is getting ready to grow. Again! Our award-winning community is entering its final phase with 63 hectares (155 acres) of new redevelopment.

The Northeast Corner

Village at Griesbach is evolving into an urban community that people of any age, and from every place, can comfortably call home. The Northeast Corner is a rare opportunity to build on the footprint that has held pride of place in the heart of Edmonton since the 1950s. Built along Griesbach’s iconic tree-lined streets, The Northeast Corner will blend old and new, connecting its past with the future by:

  • A fresh mix of housing types and styles, parks and open spaces, community and amenities
  • A sustainable, innovative neighbourhood that will thrive for generations to come
  • Combine the safety and security of a village with the amenities and accessibility of urban living
  • Complement the area’s mature landscapes with ageless architectural styles
  • Honour the area’s connection to Canada’s military history and the ancestors who have called this land home

Our Vision

Our starting point for a vision for The Northeast Corner begins with:

Accessibility for residents of all ages and abilities.
Affordability for residents with diverse economic profiles.
Choice options for living, working, learning and sharing space.
Diversity for relationships that build community connections.
Respect for past, present and future communities.
Sustainability for future generations and environmental challenges.

GROWING GRIESBACH FAQ

Canada Lands Company is currently in demolition preparation and initial planning, lotting, and zoning. Development is slated to begin in 2025.

The Northeast Corner project launched in 2022, and in 2023, Edmonton City Council approved the Northeast Corner’s Neighbourhood Area Structure Plan.
Specific details around timing are still being confirmed, but we are hopeful that homes will be available and that the first new residents will be moving into Griesbach by Spring/Summer 2026.
Since 2022, Canada Lands has been laying the groundwork for a transition from classic, well-used Residential Housing Units (RHUs) built in the 1950s to spaces designed for new ways of living and working together. Our design team held many meaningful conversations that contributed to the final master plan—conversations of the listening, learning, and thinking kind.
