ENABLING NEW HOUSING AT VILLAGE AT GRIESBACH

Following the Government of Canada’s Budget 2024, Canada Lands Company is continuing to do its part to address our country’s housing crisis. Through a collaboration with Public Services and Procurement Canada, and Housing, Infrastructure and Communities Canada and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s (CMHC) Federal Lands Initiative (FLI), Canada Lands is seeking to create over 1,000 housing units that are sustainable, accessible and socially inclusive for Canadians. The FLI program supports the transfer of surplus federal land at a discounted rate to eligible proponents.

Canada Lands has presently made five parcels of land immediately available across Canada for long-term lease at nominal value, including a site at Sir Arthur Currie Way as part of the Village at Griesbach property. The 1.06—hectare (2.6-acre) site at the Village at Griesbach is aiming to provide 45 units of housing, with almost 50% dedicated to affordable homes as part of the FLI initiative.

In order for Canadians to obtain information about current and future housing opportunities available on other federal properties, the government has launched a new Public Land Bank mapping tool that helps the public and builders easily identify available public land to expedite new housing. In addition to the five long-term lease sites mentioned above, Canada Lands Company has presently listed eight additional parcels in the Public Land Bank.
